Why Is My Mini Flat Tip Shedding After Installation, and Can I Reuse It?
Common causes include:
1. The keratin tip was not fully melted
Insufficient heat or heating time may prevent the keratin from fully bonding around the hair, reducing the hold.
2. Too little or unevenly distributed natural hair was used
If there is not enough natural hair inside the tip, the keratin cannot securely surround the hair.
Solution: Use an appropriate amount of natural hair for each extension.
3. The melted keratin was not properly shaped
After melting, the keratin should be promptly molded around the natural hair to create a tight, even bond. Improper shaping can significantly reduce the hold.
4. The hair was washed too soon or exposed to heat or oily products
Newly installed keratin bonds need time to fully set.
Solution: Avoid washing your hair, swimming, sauna use, intense sweating, hair oil, and hair masks for the first 48 hours. Keep oily products away from the keratin bonds.
Can it be reused?
Once a Mini Flat Tip (K-Tip) falls out, the original keratin tip should not simply be reheated and reinstalled.
For reinstallation:
- Use a professional adhesive remover to remove any remaining keratin.
- Clean and organize the hair strands.
- Apply new keratin to create a new tip.
- Use a professional hair extension heat tool to melt and shape the new keratin bond before reinstalling it.
The original keratin tip may lose some of its bonding strength after the first installation and removal. For a stronger, longer-lasting result, we recommend using fresh keratin each time you reinstall the extension.
Tip: If you do not have the proper heat tools or installation experience, have a professional hair extensionist perform the reinstallation to ensure a secure hold and minimize pulling or damage to your natural hair.
